London LAU Community Gathers for AiW Award Honoring Roula Khalaf

On March 27, more than 160 members of the LAU community—alumni, friends and partners— gathered at One Great George Street in the heart of Westminster for an evening dedicated to honoring remarkable achievements and reaffirming shared values.

The evening celebrated Ms. Roula Khalaf, Editor of the Financial Times, as the recipient of the Arab Institute of Women’s (AiW) “Honoring Our Own” Award. The award was presented by AiW Director Myriam Sfeir, who movingly shared the story of AiW’s fifty-year history of pioneering work, an accomplishment that felt especially resonant during Women’s History Month. Tenor Bechara Moufarrej then dedicated a heartfelt performance in Arabic to Ms. Khalaf, a gesture he described as a first for him, and one that left a lasting impression on all who were present.

The evening also marked an exciting milestone for LAU’s future. For the first time, we publicly announced the quiet phase of the LAU Capital Campaign Transform Tomorrow Together, a bold and ambitious vision for what our university can become with the support of those who believe in its mission.

Proceeds from the event have been dedicated to advancing AiW’s core mission: promoting gender equality across Lebanon and the Arab region by amplifying women’s voices in public and political life, honoring women pioneers, and strengthening the institutions working toward sustainable change.
