Michael Huijer

Lead Advancement Communications Manager

Michael Huijer leads the Advancement Communications team in Beirut, where he works closely with fundraising, stewardship, and donor engagement teams to develop compelling communications that advance the university’s mission and philanthropic priorities. He brings more than 18 years of experience in strategic communications, editorial leadership, and stakeholder engagement across higher education, think tanks, and international organizations in the Middle East and Europe.

Before joining LAU, Michael served as Executive Editor at Badil | The Alternative Policy Institute and Triangle, where he led editorial strategy, communications, partnerships, and donor-focused messaging. Previously, as Communications Manager at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut, he oversaw communications, publications processes, events management, branding initiatives, and engagement with donors and institutional partners. He holds an MA in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from SOAS, University of London, and a BA in Mass Communication and Film Studies from London Metropolitan University.
